Dartmouth, Devon
Dartmouth is home to the Britannia Royal Naval College. You’re likely to spot a visiting warship, and even the occasional cruise liner moored among the rows of sailing and motor yachts. This beautiful town is home to numerous art galleries, cafes, bistros and restaurants.
The Dartmouth Royal Regatta is the highlight of the year for sailing and rowing events.
What To Do
In order to properly appreciate our pretty, ancient town and this area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we strongly recommend that you stay at least two nights.
There is a plethora of open space. Dartmoor is only 45 minutes away. We are keen walkers; we can recommend interesting local paths and good country pubs; National Trust properties are close by.
The Flavel arts centre stages films, theatre, opera and concerts throughout the year at very reasonable rates. It also houses a modern library.
A round trip up the river to Totnes, sometimes by paddle steamer, with connecting bus to Paignton and return on the private steam train is strongly recommended.
Take a short boat ride over to Dartmouth castle or hop on the ferry to Kingswear for a steam train trip to the English Riviera. There’s so much more to do in Dartmouth and we’ll help with suggestions to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
